![]() ![]() Sleeping: Only the kids are asleep, momma’s out on the porch with a gun - I could sleep with that. They make their way through a couple of different townsĬome back at dark: I actually kinda agree, a bit hokey, but goddamn is that scene at night arresting though Marrying Mitchum: They spend several scenes building that up and they show her as kind of hollowed out by her dead husband and then this weirdo preacher - I bought itīody in lake: If I recall he says to himself he’s worried they’ll accuse him of doing it, especially since he’s not well liked in the community because of his boozing To your other comments: It starts and ends in the Classical Hollywood morality yarn, and I was into that weird contrast of wholesome veneer of that era of film vs German Expressionist horror of it which matches up beautifully with the preacher/murderer, love/hate theme. I do think the dream comment is on point, but I think that’s one of its stronger traits, it has a lyrical poetry to it - you feel the danger, this threat to innocence constantly around the corner.
